Daily Flag Retreat Ceremony Enhanced with “Challenge Coin”

Shortly before Flag Day, the Disneyland Resort added a magical moment for guests prior to the daily flag retreat ceremony at Disneyland park. The Disneyland Resort Color Guard selects a guest to receive a challenge coin. Oftentimes, the guest is an active or retired member of the military.

Challenge coins are traditionally presented to individuals as tokens of appreciation or recognition from an organization, for example, the military uses challenge coins in this manner. Currently, the Disneyland Resort’s challenge coin depicts Mickey Mouse in patriotic attire on one side and a salute to the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration on the other.
