Review: The Nightmare Before Christmas Official Advent Calendar of Ghoulish Delights
Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Official Advent Calendar of Ghoulish Delights is a 10 inch by 14 inch book that opens flat. Inside you will find 25 envelopes of various sizes, one to open each day as you count down to Christmas. The daily surprises include paper ornaments, gift tags, spooky carols, games, craft ideas, recipes, trivia cards, sticky notes, a wood ornament, a magnetic bookmark, fun movie facts, and a surprise gift on the 25.
The hard cover and envelope delivery means the book can be reused easier than other calendars that are a single pop out design. If you are a fan of the film and looking for keepsakes this is a plus as you can repurpose it potentially.
The list price for the book is $30, but it can be found closer to $20 on Amazon. At this price point the calendar is a reasonable deal. There is a nice variety of items. Most of the items are on a string so you can hang them on a tree. I could see this being a great co-worker gift, maybe with a little desktop tree. Note unlike many other advent calendars this one is mostly paper prizes, it does not contain any figurines or other dimensional items.
My kids are big Nightmare Before Christmas fans and they have really enjoyed hanging the ornaments on their tree and really want to make the recipes. This book works better for kids 5 and up, who are less likely to accidentally rip everything that they get into. This kept the fun and magic of Nightmare before Christmas for my older child who is enthralled with Jack, while my younger one was not into it as much except being able to open the envelopes.
