Disneyland Resort Honors Black Music Month with Special Celebrate Soulfully Experiences

ANAHEIM, Calif. (June 2, 2022) – Following the introduction of Celebrate Soulfully in February, Disneyland Resort invites guests to continue the festivities with special experiences and entertainment highlighting Black Music Month, beginning June 1 through July 4.

Celebrate Soulfully at Disneyland Resort showcases rich experiences that honor Black heritage and culture. Year-round, friends and family can celebrate by training with the Dora Milaje – the royal guard of Wakanda – at Avengers Campus, joining Princess Tiana for a fairytale meal during Disney Princess Breakfast Adventures at Napa Rose restaurant, discovering artisan goods from Black-owned businesses at Post 21 in Downtown Disney District and more.

Daily live music keeps the summer vibes going

In celebration of Black Music Month, guests can enjoy daily live performances across the Disneyland Resort, highlighting genres such as doo-wop, Motown, funk, reggae and others.

At Disney California Adventure Park, guests can feel the nostalgia of Carthay Circle as Philly Phonics, an a cappella vocal group, performs jazzy tunes from the 1920s through today. In addition, Five & Dime stylishly sings and swings 1920s and ‘30s tunes with brass and sass.

In the evening, the summer vibes continue at Disney California Adventure with a block party atmosphere in the Hollywood Backlot. Seven nights a week starting at 5:15 p.m., guests can dance and chill out under the stars as live musical acts perform on the Hollywood Backlot Stage. Featured acts include Midnight Hour, a group offering the best sounds of Motown, and Urban Music Society, an eight-piece R&B and funk band.

At the Downtown Disney District, Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen features a jazz pianist nightly and beginning at 6:30 p.m. each evening, the Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage showcases musical entertainment covering a range of genres, with groups including the Singers of Soul, Denean’s Soul Foundation, The Rhythm & Blues Brothas and more. Plus, on Saturdays and Sundays, friends and family can dance together at the Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage as a DJ plays upbeat hits from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Near the stage, guests can also enjoy a family craft activity and contribute to a music-themed mural.

Each afternoon at GCH Craftsman Bar, overlooking the pool at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, guests can sway to the soul-soothing sounds of Jamaican, Afro-Cuban and reggae music from performers such as Island Reggae.

Entertainment schedules are available on Disneyland.com and the Disneyland mobile app.

‘The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure’ at the Downtown Disney District

“The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure,” a touring exhibit that illustrates the legacy and dynamic history of jazz, is on display at the Downtown Disney District through July 4 – complimentary to all guests. Located in the building adjacent to Star Wars Trading Post, the exhibit is open from noon to 8 p.m. daily.

In the exhibit, Joe Gardner – musician, mentor, and star of Disney and Pixar’s original animated film, “Soul” – takes guests on a musical tour across America. As a tribute to a musical art form that was originated by African Americans, the exhibit illustrates the many different cultures and creators who influenced this ever-evolving genre. Walt Disney Imagineering partnered with cultural institutions and subject matter experts to bring this story to life.

Unique to this presentation of “The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure,” guests can discover photographs highlighting the legacy of jazz at Disneyland Resort.

Special dining across the Disneyland Resort

Troubadour Tavern at Disneyland Park is introducing a new menu with items including the chicken-coconut curry sweet potato, berbere-spiced popcorn and cardamom cold brew. Award Wieners at Disney California Adventure Park infuses soul food flavors in its new foot-long BBQ pulled pork dog and peaches and cream funnel cake fries.

Local, Black-owned food trucks will offer delicious dining at the Downtown Disney District. Guests can embrace the heat with Bred Nashville Hot Chicken or cool off with a frozen treat from Happy Ice.

In addition to its Creole cuisine available all year long, Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen in the Downtown Disney District is offering a signature drink as smooth and sweet as the music: a peach pie old fashioned featuring Uncle Nearest whiskey.

At Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, the GCH Craftsman Bar is featuring two limited-time menu items: a surf and turf – jerk-seasoned beef tenderloin skewers and coconut shrimp with raspberry rum sauce – and a special summer cocktail.
