55 Fun Facts of Five Years at Shanghai Disney Resort

Since its Grand Opening in 2016, Shanghai Disney Resort has celebrated a number of amazing milestones, and has delivered more happiness and excitement than could ever be measured. From taking their first few steps down Mickey Avenue, to witnessing the spectacle of one of the resort’s breathtaking entertainment shows, every part of a guest’s visit to this magical destination is designed to bring a smile to their face. However, while it is impossible to count all of the smiles Shanghai Disney Resort has created over the past five years, here are a number of memories and milestones that the resort has managed to record!

  1. Over the past five years, Voyage to the Crystal Grotto boats have traveled over 139,000 km, or the equivalent of 3.5 times the circumference of the globe.
  2. Over 33 million guests have experienced a swashbuckling adventure on Pirates of the Caribbean – Battle for the Sunken Treasure.
  3. TRON Lightcycle Power Run vehicles have travelled more than 1.6 million km – the equivalent of around 300,000 laps of the Shanghai International Circuit.
  4. Soaring Over the Horizon has been flying guests around the world for over 21,000 hours since opening – the equivalent of 1,500 flights from Shanghai to California.
  5. Slinky Dog has chased his tail around 990,000 times since opening in April, 2018. And he’s still chasing it today!
  6. Ignite the Dream – A Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light was performed over 1,600 times, totaling 32,000 minutes, before the show transformed into ILLUMINATE! A Nighttime Celebration.
  7. Mickey’s Storybook Express has traveled a total distance of over 2,200 km – the equivalent distance of a trip from Shanghai to Kunming.
  8. The song “Let It Go” has been performed over 17,000 times since opening in Frozen: A Sing-Along Celebration, Mickey’s Storybook Express and Ignite the Dream.
  9. There are more than 325 sets of character meet and greets throughout the resort every day, meaning Disney Characters have spent around 276,000 hours over the past five years meeting guests.
  10. The pirates of El Teatro Fandango have called out “Yo-Ho” at least 120,000 times during Eye of the Storm – Captain Jack’s Stunt Spectacular.
  11. 17,673 different merchandise items have been made available to guests since Grand Opening, and 9,308 of these are exclusively developed by Shanghai Disney Resort.
  12. As one of the most popular merchandise products at Shanghai Disney Resort, 219 different kinds of headbands have been made available for guests to collect since Grand Opening.
  13. A total of 5,770,000 plush have been sold so far – the equivalent of one in every four Shanghai residents owning at least one Shanghai Disney Resort plush.
  14. Since joining Shanghai Disney Resort in 2018, StellaLou has quickly become a favorite character for many guests. If all StellaLou-related merchandise sold at the resort was stacked on top of each other, the height would equal 119 Mount Everests.
  15. As one of the most popular collectible souvenirs, over 2.5 million pins have been sold since the resort’s Grand Opening.
  16. Around 90 million photos have been captured by PhotoPass photographers across the resort over the past five years, as well as countless others taken by our guests!
  17. 9 million stamps have been imprinted in guests’ Magic Passports.
  18. Over 6,000 different food and beverage items have been offered in the park and at the resort’s two hotels since Grand Opening.
  19. Mickey and Minnie’s classic ice creams are among the most popular food products in the park, and around 5 million classic Mickey and Minnie ice creams have been sold since Grand Opening.
  20. Two million corn dogs have been sold in the park. If all corn dogs sold in the park to date were stacked end-to-end, they would be able to reach the International Space Station as it passed over Shanghai.
  21. 10 million portions of rice have been served to guests – the equivalent weight of 15 Boeing 777s.
  22. 4 million burgers have been served so far. If these burgers were stacked on top of each other, they would be 688 Shanghai Towers tall.
  23. 5 million children’s meal sets have been sold at Quick Service Restaurants in the park.
  24. Disney Characters have appeared in front of over 1.3 million guests as part of the magical dining experiences at the Royal Banquet Hall and Lumiere’s Kitchen over the past five years.
  25. 2,956 lanterns have been used as part of the Spring Festival campaigns the resort has celebrated over the past five years.
  26. 5,766 pumpkins have been used as part of the Halloween campaigns the resort has hosted over the past five years.
  27. It has “snowed” 518 times in the park during the Christmas seasons since 2018 – totaling 7,770 minutes over the past three years.
  28. runners have participated in Disney Inspiration Runs throughout the years, running a collective total of 280,000km. The Chang’e-5 orbiter needs to fly for around 41 hours to reach an equivalent distance.
  29. The Mickey Floral arrangement at the Main Entrance to Shanghai Disneyland has changed to reflect eight different themes: classic, Spring Festival, spring, summer, Duffy Month, Halloween, Christmas, and most recently, the resort’s 5th Birthday.
  30. The Custodial team works hard to maintain a spotless park environment and 96% of guests have rated the park’s cleanliness as excellent, very good or good. The Custodial team also creates magical moments for guests with over 200 types of Custodial magical moment imagery based on Disney characters and festivals appearing across the resort throughout the years.
  31. Over 13 million different stickers have been distributed to guests including Birthday and Star Guest stickers.
  32. 95% of guests have rated Cast Members’ services as excellent, very good or good, and over 12,000 thank you letters have been sent by guests over the past five years.
  33. Shanghai Disney Resort provides a MagicALL experience for every guest and Cast Member, and 36,000 guests have benefited from the resort’s wheelchair service.
  34. 1.3 million infants and children have benefited from the park’s stroller service.
  35. Over 13 million guests have visited the 11-meter-tall Giant Donald Duck on Wishing Star Lake since he debuted on July 9, 2018.
  36. The five Shanghai Disney Resort-themed China Eastern Airlines airplanes have carried over 3 million passengers and have collectively traveled over 25,930,000 km – the equivalent of circling the earth 647 times.
  37. A total of 24 different themed Line 11 metro trains have been refreshed with different Shanghai Disney Resort campaign themes over the past five years.
  38. The resort continues to use treated lake/river water instead of tap water for irrigation and ground cleaning, which has saved around 6 million cubic meters, or around 2,400 Olympic-size swimming pools of water since Grand Opening.
  39. If all plastic bottles recycled over the past five years were stacked on top of each other, the height would be equivalent to around 27,000 Enchanted Storybook Castles.
  40. A series of energy saving efforts, including LED lighting system reformation and indoor temperature adjustment has helped save 4.9 million kilowatts electricity in one year. This equals the amount of power needed to run TRON Lightcycle Power Run for 24,500 hours.
  41. In the past two years, Shanghai Disney Resort’s environmental protection efforts have eliminated roughly 3.8 million regular plastic straws, 1.1 million specialty drink plastic straws, and 1 million plastic stirrers. And the resort’s owned and operated restaurants have reduced disposable cutlery use by over 90%.
  42. Nearly 56,000 VoluntEAR hours have been donated to the community by Disney volunteers (Cast Members and Imagineers) since the resort’s groundbreaking in 2011.
  43. 1,680,000 people’s lives have been positively impacted by the Shanghai Disney Resort VoluntEAR programs.
  44. The five-year Children’s Hospital Project that Disney launched five years ago to commemorate the Grand Opening of Shanghai Disney Resort has so far gone on to develop dozens of Disney Fun Houses in 28 cities across China.
  45. Over 100 Disney Reading Together sessions have been delivered at Shanghai Disney Resort and in local communities, featuring participation from a number of celebrities, athletes, and role models.
  46. Disney Wild About Safety DVDs have been distributed to nearly 1,000 elementary schools in Shanghai, and over 1.26 million students have benefited to date.
  47. Nearly 50 firefighters and 18 fire engines, including ladder fire trucks and firefighting mobile light towers, have appeared as Grand Marshals since 2016 on National Fire Prevention Day to call for the awareness of fire safety.
  48. 115 species of bird have been monitored at Wishing Star Park, thanks to its favorable ecological conditions that are ideally suited to support wildlife.
  49. Shanghai Disney Resort’s Cast Members come from every province and municipality in China, and 27 other countries and regions.
  50. Since January 1, 2016, 566,392 hours of Disney Traditions have been taught by Shanghai Disney Resort Cast Members.
  51. 239 backstage Cast Activities, attended by a total of 524,233 Cast, have been held since April, 2016.
  52. Since Grand Opening, Shanghai Disney Resort has established partnerships with around 250 colleges and universities around China. The resort has opened eight “Shanghai Disney Resort Reserved Talent Classes” since 2017, sharing Disney culture with students and providing training to help them kick start their careers.
  53. Shanghai Disney Resort continues Disney’s heritage of wish-granting, and collaborates with local non-profit organizations to fulfill Disney wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions. 54 Disney wishes have been granted to children in just four years, with the 55th Disney wish set to be granted on the resort’s Fifth Anniversary.
