D23 Holiday Mixer at the Bowers Museum

This close-to-Christmas weekend, after a two-year hiatus, D23 held its traditional Holiday Mixer event at the Bowers Museum, site of the currently running All That Glitters: The Crown Jewels of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit, and Disneygeek.com was invited to join in the merriment!

On arrival at the Bowers Museum, guests were given a lanyard along with the commemorative gifts for the night:  D23 magnets and a fold-out postcard set.

The main area for the event was outside in the Bowers Museum courtyard which was festively decorated with a stage and several photo-ops, matching the postcard images.

Cookies and hot cocoa were provided to take the Southern California winter chill off, while food trucks were available outside for those in search of something more substantial.  While people mingled and partook of refreshments, the Glissando Bell Ringers provided seasonal entertainment.

The main attraction was the ability to see the great All That Glitters exhibit, highlights of which were represented here, for more more in depth look at the exhibit here is my preview post :

Promotional locket for POLLYANNA

[Of interest, I’m currently reading Hayley Mills’ recent autobiography Forever Young and she mentions this locket that was sold at Disneyland–she recalls the writer/director David Swift telling her that he just made this quote up and attributed it to Abraham Lincoln, and subsequently had the lockets pulled from the stores when he found out they were printed with it.]

People further interested in the exhibit can check out the museum’s digital guide for it that includes much of the text posted with the items.

Characters came and went throughout the event, with Santa Goofy capping off the charming night.
