Pictures: D23 Expo 2022 – Uncovering Treasures from the Marty Sklar Collection

At noon on Saturday the Archives Stage hosted a presentation entitled Uncovering Treasures from the Marty Sklar Collection at the 2022 D23 Expo.   Here is the D23 Description of the Panel:

Join Imagineering Ambassador Bob Weis and Leah and Leslie Sklar, the wife and daughter of the late Disney Legend and Imagineer Marty Sklar, as they discuss some of the treasures they’ve discovered while going through Marty’s collection from his more than 50 years with Walt Disney Imagineering.

I attended the presentation and below are some pictures and stats from the collection. The panel was moderated by Leslie Iwerks.  The trio shared stories of some of the items they have found in the boxes as well as memories of Marty.  This collection is Marty’s personal collection from over the years.  These are items that were not sent to the any of the archives or Disney storage.  These are items he had at home and in various spaces at Walt Disney Imagineering offices.  They are still working on cataloging and preserving the collection but there are plans for a documentary and book in the works, no timelines or anything to announce yet.  Below are some pictures from the presentation showing some of the items they shared stories about.

Marty Sklar’s Boxes were collected from various storage areas at home and at Walt Disney Imagineering. They have over 1,000 boxes in the collection.  These are all “things” that Marty kept that were not sent to various archives or company records storage.
The team has been cataloging, preserving, digitizing the items throughout the pandemic.
This box of John Hench drawings contained over 1,000 sketches
