Savi’s Workshop Experience at Disneyland
One of the most amazing experiences a Star Wars fan can have is to custom hand build their very own lightsabers at Savi’s Workshop. My family had the opportunity to do that on a recent Disneyland visit and it was the highlight of our day. We made our reservations online the same day for two available slots at 4pm in the afternoon.
We traveled to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, where a group known as the “Gatherers” ushered us into a covert workshop packed with unusual parts, whimsical pieces and miscellaneous memorabilia collected from the far reaches of the galaxy. This special place in the galaxy was called Savi’s Workshop. When we first arrived, we met with one of Savi’s Gatherers outside his workshop, and choose one of 4 available hilt themes and received a cloisonné pin (see photo above) to identify our selection.
The hilt themes include:
- Peace and Justice
Salvaged scraps from fallen Jedi temples and crashed starships in these Republic-era designs honor the galaxy’s former guardians. - Power and Control
Originally forged by dark side warriors, this style features rumored remnants from the Sith homeworld and abandoned temples. - Elemental Nature
This theme embodies the Force—an energy created by all living things, like Brylark trees, Cartusion whale bones and Rancor teeth. - Protection and Defense
Hilt materials bear mysterious motifs and inscriptions that reconnect users with the ancient wellspring of the Force.
After selecting our hilt theme, we were ushered into Savi’s workshop where the Gatherers guide us how to construct our very own lightsaber. They also helped us select the heart of our lightsaber—the kyber crystal, which is available in red, blue, green or violet. Violet was very few and rare, so my daughters did not get to pick that one. Maybe it was reserved for Master Windu or something.. My girls picked red and blue, to balance the universe of course.
Below are some photos of my daughters selecting the parts and custom building their very own lightsabers.
Our absolutely favorite moment was when they dimmed the lights and the kids reached for their lightsabers and held them up for the first time and bringing them to life through the power of kyber crystals.
At night, be sure to return to Galaxy Edge and battle with other Star War geeks.
The Savi’s Workshop Experience at Disneyland is about 20 minutes long and my family really enjoyed it very much. It was absolutely memorable and something my kids will always cherish.
