There are more than 60 Frozen-inspired recipes for appetizers, entrees, drinks, and desserts will bring Arendelle to your kitchen. The book is divided into 6 chapters with about 6 – 20 recipes each:
- Chapter 1: Breakfast
This chapter contains 6 different recipes for breakfast foods. Eggs is a staple in my household for breakfast. The “Eggerøre with parsley, chives, and pea vines” is a nice twist to the traditional meal. If you are wondering, eggerøre means scrambled eggs in Norwegian. It is a nice and easy recipe to whip up quickly. Fluffy scrambled eggs with a slight hint of bitterness of the pea shoots is a great way to start any morning. - Chapter 2: Appetizers, Sides, and Salads
This chapter contains 9 recipes for side dishes. I enjoy a good salad, so I thought I would give the “8000 Salad Plates Salad” recipe a try. It was a simple recipe for a light salad. The sliced radishes, cauliflowers, and almonds gave the salad a nice crunchy texture. It was delicious and worthy of being served on many thousands of plates. - Chapter 3: Soups
This chapter contains 4 soup recipes. My family enjoy eating soups and I wish there were more soup recipes. The “Hot Soup and Gløgg in the Great Hall” Yellow Pea Soup had a very interesting name and was quite appetizing. If you remember in the first Frozen movie, Anna leaves Hans in charge of Arendelle and he assured the kingdom’s citizens that the castle will remain open to offer soup and hot gløgg in the Great Hall. This steamy vegetable soup was inspired by Hans’ offering. It contains split peas, diced pancetta (cured pork belly), potatoes, and carrots. This makes a hearty soup that would surely warm you up, even on the coldest day in Arendell! The soup takes about an hour to prepare and cook. - Chapter 4: Entrees
This chapter contains 17 main dishes and proteins include fish, chicken, pork, and beef. If you like mashed potatoes, like my kids do, you will enjoy the “Burning Love” recipe. It is a creamy dish of mashed potatoes smothered in toppings that range from crispy bacon and pickled beets. For this dish, each of my family member can add as much of the toppings as they prefer. - Chapter 5: Desserts
This chapter contains 19 mouthwatering desserts, including cakes and cookies. My favorite dessert, and probably the simplest one to make, is the “Troll Cream.” This is a vanilla and berry whipped cream you can quickly make. Serve it in a cone or a cookie, and this will surely be a hit. - Chapter 6: Drinks
This chapter contains 7 drink recipes. The “non-alcoholic hot gløgg in the Great Hall” is the mixed fruit drink you want to make to accompany the yellow pea soup. Made of fruit juices, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom, this warm drink will surely thaw a frozen heart.
Overview
This cookbook contains many authentic Scandinavian cuisines, which is very new and different to me. I greatly enjoyed learning about the culture through the historical references and storytelling. What better way to learn a culture than through food?
Many of the recipes use a lot of potatoes, which my kids enjoy. A new ingredient that this cook inspired me to try were pickled beets. I had no idea they can be pickled until recently. I am use to eating beets when they are sweet, so tasting them pickled was a nice surprise!
Disney Frozen: The Official Cookbook contains so many flavorful dishes that you will find something each member of your family will enjoy. This would make a great gift for any Frozen fan.
