Book Review: Star Wars – A Jedi You Will Be

Due to the on-going pandemic, I have my two daughters (ages 4 & 8 years old) at home, doing distance learning combined with homeschooling while I am balancing working from home. We enjoy discovering new books to read and discuss. I have received several Disney Books from my Fall Homeschool Reading List and will be sharing reviews of them. Here is my Fall 2020 Children’s Disney Book list.

star wars jedi you will beBelieve it or not, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back made its debut on the big screen on May 21, 1980. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of this amazing movie comes “A Jedi You Will Be,” a charming picture book written by Preeti Chhibber and illustrated by Mike Deas. Learn how to use the Force in this hilarious book, narrated by the one and only Master Yoda!

Daughter’s Reaction

My 8-year-old daughter, who is an aspiring artist, really loves the illustrations in the book. The watercolors and artistic style used throughout the book really stands out and draws you into the story. She loved the story as well since Yoda was teaching her how to become a Jedi.

Overview

I agree with my daughter. What stood out the most to me in “A Jedi You Will Be,” is the gorgeous illustrations with every page turn. Luke Skywalker’s expression on each page is quite memorable as well. The story is told from the point of view of Yoda, where he notices you, the reader, and takes you along the journey of becoming a Jedi with Luke. The story is written in the same way Yoda would talk, so it is nice to read some very familiar quotes from the iconic movie — “Do or do not. There is not try.” -Master Yoda

A Jedi You Will Be” serves as a great introduction of the Star Wars universe to a younger generation. Through Yoda’s teaching, patience, and hard work, a young padawan will learn they too can become a Jedi. This book is written by Preeti Chhibber and illustrated by Mike Deas and is best suited for children 5-9 years old.
