Home Video Review: Disney Haunted Mansion

Haunted Mansion National Blu ray

Disney’s Haunted Mansion is available digitally now and on disc formats.  The film is inspired by the attraction and tells the story of a mom and her son who move into a house that is haunted.  The movie features an all-star cast including – Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jared Leto, LaKeith Stanfield, and Tiffany Haddish.

In addition to the film the release includes two featurettes, eight deleted scenes and a bloopers reel.   For full technical aspects and details of the offering here is the initial press release.  The primary feature is the “Making Haunted Mansion” that runs just over 13 minutes.  It is a very traditional piece featuring interviews with the cast and filmmakers sharing how the ghosts were brought to life and the attraction  to the big screen.   The second featurette is entitled “999 Happy Haunts” which looks for Easter eggs from the Disneyland and nods to the Walt Disney World version of the attraction in the film.   I thought both of these were interesting features to watch, my only complaint is they were short.. only 20 minutes of material combined.    The deleted scenes have no introduction and can be played individually or all at once.   The gag reel is a normal reel of outtakes and actors dancing.

If you want to learn a little more about making of the film, the cast, and references to the attraction this home video release is worth considering.  You may be left wanting more, like I was, but the twenty minutes gives you a look at the film and attraction references.

The Haunted Mansion is also available on Disney+, but only a trailer is included there.  The bonus features are exclusive to the home video release at this time.
