Book Review: Walt Disney Treasures: Personal Art and Artifacts from The Walt Disney Family Museum

Walt Disney Treasures: Personal Art and Artifacts from The Walt Disney Family Museum is now available. This hardcover book features over 250 items from the Walt Disney Family Museum collection, chronicling the life of Walt Disney laid out on 232 pages. The collection includes personal photographs, items, awards, and art and the stories behind them to showcase more about Walt, including his family and personal life. The significance of each item that is pictured is shared through a narrative that includes many quotes from Walt as well as firsthand accounts from his family, friends, and employees. The book opens with a preface by Walt’s Grandson, Walter E.D. Miller, and a foreword by Kirsten Komoroske, who is the museum's executive director. The book divides the collection into eight chapters: • Heart: Walt as a family man • Determination: his inexhaustible drive as a businessman and citizen • Inspiration: key figures, places, and works that influenced Walt • Animation: his pioneering of short-form and feature-length animation into an American art form • Innovation: his experimental and trailblazing contributions to the craft of live-action, animated, and documentary cinema • Creativity: Walt's curiosity with miniatures, trains, and more • Imagination: Disneyland, EPCOT, and beyond • Legacy: awards and recognition he received throughout the years This book offers the opportunity for those like myself who have not been to the Walt Disney Family Museum to see some of the collections and learn more about the stories behind the items. For those who have been or are visiting, it offers a great keepsake of your visit and a way to spend more time with what you were able to see and maybe some items you missed or did not have time to really look at or read about when there in person.
