Book Review: Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: Pop-Up Holiday Worlds

Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: Pop-Up Holiday Worlds by Matthew Reinhart and Rodrigo Tannus features a pair of dimensional displays of holiday worlds from the film.   Each town is a highly detailed pop-up piece of art that includes locations and characters you will recognize from the movie.  The book is 8×10 so when opened the scenes are approximated 16×10 and rise several inches into the air.

The first scene is Halloween Town where you can spot Jack Skellington, Sally, Lock, Shock and Barrel.

My impressions of Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: Pop-Up Holiday Worlds:

I thought the pop-up art was very well done and captured the essence of the towns in a different way.   I have not really looked at modern pop-up books so the format was new to me and different.   I tend to be on the cautious side and found the transformation one scene to another to feel a awkward/forced, I kept thinking I was going to damage it.  If you are looking for a slightly different gift for a Nightmare Before Christmas fan on your shopping list this may be worth considering but your mileage may vary based on their age and interest.  For example, my eight year old nephew is a big Nightmare Before Christmas Fan and he enjoyed looking at the two scenes and pointing out the sights and characters but after a few minutes he was done and onto something else.
