Ballet Cat – The Totally Secret Secret by Bob Shea
Ballet Cat and Sparkles the Pony are trying to decide what to play today and it is not very easy! Sparkles suggests making crafts, playing checkers, and selling lemonade but these activities do not seem to go well with leaping, spinning, and twirling that Ballet Cat loves to do.
When Sparkles leaps, spins, and twirls halfheartedly, Ballet Cat asks him what is wrong. After this moment, they shared secret secrets together. Will what they confess to each other change their friendship?
Daughter’s Reaction
My five-year-old daughter loves this book. The story is about two best friends who have different opinions on their favorite activities. That is something she can definitely relate to with her best friend.
Overview
I enjoyed the book for its fun pictures and colorful pages, but mostly for what it teaches children about friendship. Children can learn how to compromise to make everyone happy. They also learn that being honest and telling each other how we feel can really strengthen a friendship. I highly recommend this book for beginner readers (ages 3 – 7).
