Mickey’s 90th Spectacular on ABC Sun 11/4

Airing tonight is “Mickey’s 90th Spectacular,” a birthday celebration of Mickey Mouse. Disney celebrated at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles with a lineup of celebrity tributes, musical performances and cartoon features.

The ceremonies were presided over by the birthday mouse himself, and began with a performance from Sofia Carson of Disney’s “Descendants” and a tribute from Frozen’s Kristen Bell.

The night includes unique renditions of classic Disney songs from Josh Groban, Leslie Odom Jr., Zac Brown Band, Tori Kelly and Meghan Trainor. The showstoppers of the evening included  performances by K-Pop group NCT 127 and “Despacito” singer Luis Fonsi. Mickey himself even made an appearance on the drums.

Other celebrity presenters include John Stamos, Sarah Hyland, Josh Gad, Skyler Astin and more. Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Daisy and Pluto also make appearances, alongside Bob Burgess and Sharon Baird, two members of the original Mickey Mouse Club.

“Mickey’s 90th Spectacular” airs this Sunday, Nov. 4 at 8pm on ABC.  For more details on the show here is the ABC Website Page on it.

My Experience:

We arrived to the venue about three hours before the event’s start time and the audience line already packed a whole parking lot, most people in a combination of formal wear and Mickey’s iconic ears. Once we took our seats, the show moved pretty quickly. I had never been to a TV taping before and expected there to be a lot of reshoots and stop time, but the whole show pretty much moved in real time. While the whole audience was excited to celebrate Mickey’s birthday, about half the crowd absolutely lost their minds for NCT 127, a 10 member K-Pop group, that put on a perfectly choreographed number featuring a special appearance by K-Pop Mickey. For my friend and me, our favorite part was becoming honorary Mouseketeers. Every audience member had either light up ears or 90th Birthday ears under their seat to create a coordinated light show at the taping’s end, before Disney CEO Bob Iger led the crowd, performers, presenters and Mickey’s pals in a chorus of “Happy Birthday.”
