Walt Disney World: Fishing on Bay Lake

Walt Disney World offers a wide range of recreational activities in addition to the theme parks.  One that my family has enjoyed over the years are the guided bass fishing excursions.  Excursions are available out of the marina’s at several of the resorts.  Here is a quick listing (but be sure to visit the official page for current offerings).  The choices range from the lakes to waterways around several resorts – Bay Lake, Seven Seas Lagoon, Crescent Lake (Epcot resort area) and waterways around the Sassagoula River/Lake Buena Vista area.

  • Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • Disney’s Old Key West Resort
  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
  • Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
  • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
  • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

Like all Walt Disney World activities the price of fishing has risen steadily over the years.  In January 2021 a two hour trip started at $235 plus tip and varied depending on time of day.  This price includes all equipment, bait, the boat and a guide as well as some beverages (non-alcoholic) in a cooler to enjoy as you fished.   They also gave my Nephew a bag with an activity book and some other items.   All you have to do is show up.   There are some discounts available including Annual Passholder and in past years a coupon in the Birnbaum Official Guide book.  One interesting note is we had to pay the full price of the trip up front this time and then show our guide the annual pass and he called into the office and they processed a refund for the discount.  This seemed odd to me that they did not just charge the discounted rate up front.  They have the AP information to cross check/verify.  When we booked you had to call in and speak to a cast member to book and pay.  You could not do it online.  The system does not seem to be integrated well with the myDisneyExperience system, still/yet.

Even if you are not really into fishing spending some quiet time out on the water can be relaxing way to start your day.  For those of you that are not fishermen the cast members are always friendly and strive to help you catch something.  You can be as involved or uninvolved in the process as you want to be.   You can just hold the line and crank or you can can handle the bait and the fish you catch.  All Disney fishing is catch and release.   You can also just hang out on the boat and relax while others fish.  The regular pontoon boats can accommodate up to 5 guests.

During my January 2021 visit we went out on two 7am Bay Lake excursions.  It was my 4 year old nephews first time fishing and he had a blast and was eager to go again.  Here are some pictures from the two trips –
