Ant-Man now on DisneyMoviesAnywhere (My 1st Impressions) & Coming to Blu-ray 12/8

Ant-Man 3D Bluray ComboAnt-Man is now available on DisneyMoviesAnywhere and will be on Blu-ray on December 8th. This film was initially released in theaters in June 2015. It is part heist, part comedy, and part Marvel superhero leading to an entertaining adventure. If you have not seen the film here is the official synopsis:

“The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduces the newest member of the Avengers: Marvel’s Ant-Man. Armed with the amazing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang joins forces with his new mentor Dr. Hank Pym to protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from ruthless villains! With humanity’s fate in the balance, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a daring heist against insurmountable odds. Filled with humor, awesome special effects and exclusive bonus features, this action-packed adventure takes you to new levels of pulse-pounding excitement!”

I had the opportunity to explore the DisneyMoviesAnywhere version of the release. In addition to the film there is a moderate array of bonus material. The two most noteworthy pieces to me were:

Making Of An Ant-Sized Heist: A How-To Guide (14:33) — This long featurette is a look at bringing the film to the screen and the heist through a series of interviews with the cast and some of the behind the camera folks involved.

Let’s Go To The Macroverse (8:05) — I found this to be the most interesting piece in the bonus material. I would have really liked to have seen it expanded. They used a variety of techniques to make you feel as if you were ant size. The use of macro photography was interesting to me. Many probably assume it is all computer graphics.. while a fair amount is there is also a lot of real footage used.

In addition to the above featurettes there four shorts featuring WHIH News Cast clips, eight deleted scenes and a gag reel. These all seemed like your run of the mill bonus materials. I thought many of the actual scenes were more fun to watch than the gag reel. I am not a huge fan of deleted scenes and having this many did not do anything to change that. As a general rule, my only interest in most deleted scenes is why they were cut, many are fairly obvious. I do enjoy seeing alternative in some cases though. If you are a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe this is the next movie for your home collection. The bonus material is ok, not a driving force to purchase the film in my mind though. If you have not seen the film I would recommend it, I was entertained and the pace and comedy are slightly different than your typical Marvel film.
